Toronto, London & Helsinki, February 1 2017 – The Canadian Mobile Connect pilot led by EnStream LP – a joint venture of Bell Mobility, Rogers Communications and TELUS Communications, has been named as a finalist in the GSMA’s Global Mobile Awards (Glomo Awards) 2017 in the category of “Authentication and Identity”. The Glomo Awards recognise mobile innovation, excellence and achievement and will take place across the week of the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona (27 February – 2 March 2017).

“We congratulate all of the nominees for the Glomo Awards, which once again saw an impressive number of entries,” said Michael O’Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA. “The Glomo Awards recognise those companies and individuals that are driving innovation in the rapidly evolving mobile industry, and we are excited to this year introduce several new awards that highlight the very latest developments in this dynamic industry. The Canadian Mobile Connect service is now in pilot testing for authentication in Canadian e-services using components provided by Ubisecure and MePIN. The service is the first Mobile Connect deployment in the world that uses a Smartphone App Authenticator (SAA) for registration, authentication and account recovery, and has deep integration into mobile operator subscriber verification services.  It provides a simple, effective, and rich user experience for mobile subscribers from any of the three telecommunications companies using their smartphone to authenticate to participating e-services.

“We are proud to have been nominated for this prestigious award along with our partners Ubisecure and MePIN.  The implementation reflects strong collaboration among the providers as well as the participating mobile network operators.  We are all focused on developing an exceptional user experience that enhances convenience, security and privacy, while also integrating seamlessly into the online service providers’ brand experiences,” said Robert Blumenthal, Head of Digital Identity and Authentication Services at EnStream.

The service is powered by an Identity Gateway provided by Ubisecure and the smartphone app authenticator by MePIN. The combination enables user to get started quicky and incorporates the mobile network operator brand as well as the e-service brand to be visible throughout the authentication event. This increases brand recognition for the participating providers and enhances trust as the end user is properly informed to which service he is logging into.

“User experience, starting from the service discovery and covering also the numerous edge use cases, is the key to a successful online identity service. We are pleased that EnStream, the Canadian network operators, and the independent Global Mobile Award judges have recognized the benefits and rich user experiences MePIN for Mobile Connect Smartphone App Authenticator and Public Key Infrastructure enables.” Said Markku Mehtälä, CEO MePIN / Meontrust Inc.
